Resource Types Overview
Introduction
The eLearning system has a variety of different resource types, here's a quick overview of each of them from a teaching point-of-view. Click the "Show me" links to be given a list of all the resources of a particular type on the system.

Resource Types
Action songs
Full songs and backing tracks with lyrics, highlighted in time with the music to support classroom singing or instrumental playing.
Audio
Can't find the CD you need for a lesson? Don't panic, it's highly likely that the music you want is here. All the exemplar music referred to in national curriculum material and other recommended schemes of work is available here, at your finger tips.
Audio mixer
Virtual 4 or 6 track mixer, with pre-loaded samples that students can trigger on or off, adjust volume and pan left or right, to build a backing track for rehearsal, recording or performance.
Cartoons
Classic cartoon clips, stories and animated explanations of musical elements, ideal for engaging primary children.
Don't Panic/Predictability
Quiz activities, covering a broad spectrum of musical knowledge, suitable for whole class or small groups at Key Stage 3.

Interactive listening activities focused on identifying musical elements, ideal for either whole class or individual pupil use.

Exercises / Pieces (SMILE)
Exercises and pieces to support instrumental teaching and learning, SMILE resources not only allow you to control the tempo, but also the backing track mix and instrument animation, giving you a flexible tool to use in your teaching. Read more about how to use our SMILE resources.

Flash Cards
To support teaching and learning of singing and rhythm notation, interactive rhythm cards with configurable backing track and three different learning options; listen, see and sing, listen and sing, and look and sing.
Gap Fill
Listen first and follow the rap lyrics on screen, then fill in the gaps when the words are highlighted in red. A perfect introduction to rapping, particularly to support a group activity.
Graphic Notation Grids
Customizable, alternative notation methods to support class or individual rhythmic or melodic composition activities.
Images
A variety of images to provide classroom stimulus, whether as part of a unit such as 'painting with sound' or to provide contextual information or inspiration.
Jigsaws
Drag and drop the pieces to complete labeled images of instruments.
List Sequencer
Create a complete backing track by using numbers to place sample loops in order.
Matching
Interactive listening activities focused on identifying musical elements or instruments, ideal for either whole class or individual pupil use.
Multi Audio
Related audio such as sound effects, presented each with play controls on screen to enable live listening and comparison.
Multiple Choice
Quiz activity, sometimes including audio, presented for classes or individual students to answer and consolidate their learning.
Presentations
Media rich presentations on elements of rap and hip-hop, from lyric writing to history, ideal for classroom use or for students to follow in their own time.
Rap Challenge
The next step (or alternative) to Gap Fill, Rap Challenge presents progressively harder lyrical rap segments for students to listen, follow and then try themselves.
Rhythm Machine
A series of activities, ideally suited for secondary pupils, the Charanga Rhythm Machine enables students to explore and build multi-layered rhythm patterns and test their aural ability with beat challenges.
Solfa
Configurable patterns with backing tracks to support teaching and learning of singing using tonic solfa with hand actions.
Track Explorer
Presents audio clips in a time line, with labels at different points to highlight appropriate musical elements or devices. Track explorer provides the flexibility to hide these labels, jump to any point of the music and to tag and add your own labels with annotations.
Theory
Detailed descriptions and contextual examples of music theory, perfect for either whole class demonstration or individual student exploration.
Video
A huge variety of videos, including orchestral performances, documentary, cartoons and instructional material, ideally suited for providing context to a broad range of different learning intentions.
Word Searches (Puzzle)
Interactive word searches, covering a variety of musical aspects, elements and parts of instruments.
